Estradiol and Dydrogesterone are combined together in this medicine.
This medicine is used as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in postmenopausal women. It is used to relieve symptoms after menopause such as hot flushes, vaginal dryness and itch.
Estradiol + Dydrogesterone is also used to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
Take Estradiol + Dydrogesterone exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
You may take this medicine with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- cancer of the breast or any of the genital organs e.g. endometrial or ovarian cancer
- brain tumour
- deep vein thrombosis (blood clot/s in a blood vessel of your leg) or pulmonary embolism (blood clot/s in a blood vessel of your lungs)
- heart attack
- stroke
- blood clotting disorder e.g. protein C or protein S deficiency
- thickening of the lining of the uterus
- unexplained vaginal bleeding
- porphyria (an inherited disorder that may cause skin or nerve problems)
- liver disease or history of liver disease
as Estradiol + Dydrogesterone may not be suitable for you.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or if you think that you are pregnant. If you become pregnant while being treated with Estradiol + Dydrogesterone, alert your doctor immediately. This medicine may cause harm to your unborn child.
Do not take this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- risk factors for blood clot disorder e.g. obesity, prolonged immobilization, increased age (>35 years old), smoking, family history of blood clot disorder, high level of cholesterol or fat in your blood
- high blood pressure
- diabetes
- migraine
- epilepsy (fits or seizures)
- asthma
- depression or history of depression
- systemic lupus erythematosus (autoimmune disease that causes inflammation)
- gallbladder disease
If you are going for surgery or certain laboratory tests, inform your doctor that you are taking this medicine.
Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly. Your doctor may also need to do routine tests (e.g. pap smear, breast exam, mammogram, endometrial sampling, bone density) while you are being treated with this medicine.
Estradiol + Dydrogesterone may cause dizziness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
Estradiol + Dydrogesterone may cause any of the following side effects: breast pain or tenderness, menstrual cramps, irregular bleeding, vaginal discharge or thrush, headache, nervousness, depressed mood, tiredness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, passing wind, back pain, swelling of the limbs, weight gain or loss, rashes and itch.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
- pain, swelling or skin discolouration of a limb
- breathlessness, chest pain, irregular heartbeat
- weakness or numbness of the face, arm or leg on one side of the body; confusion, trouble speaking
- blurring or loss of vision, double vision
- yellowing of the skin or eyes, stomach pain
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- medicines for epilepsy (fits or seizures) e.g. phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine
- medicines for HIV infection e.g. nevirapine, efavirenz, nelfinavir, ritonavir
- medicines for tuberculosis or TB e.g. rifampicin, rifabutin
- medicines for organ transplant or certain immune disorders e.g. tacrolimus, ciclosporin
- medicines for moderate to severe pain e.g. fentanyl
- medicine for asthma and other breathing problems e.g. theophylline
- herbal medicines e.g. St. John’s wort
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Estradiol + Dydrogesterone.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicine, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
